Quarterly Themes and Guiding Questions

These themes and guiding questions provide a context for collaborative and integrative teaching and learning.

Quarter 1 Theme: My Place in the World

Guiding Questions:

1. What skills and qualities are necessary to find my place in the world?
2. How can I develop and enhance the skills and qualities necessary for my place in the world?
3. How do I demonstrate that I have acquired the skills and qualities for my place in the world?

Quarter 2 Theme: Communicating in My World

Guiding Questions:

1. How can we effectively communicate?
2. How have innovations in technology impacted communication?
3. How do you select appropriate tools to communicate your ideas?
4. How does one’s culture and environment affect communication?
5. How can we ensure all voices are heard and understood?

Quarter 3 Theme: Interacting with My World (Systems, Conservation and Stewardship)

Guiding Questions:

1. How do we define, identify and evaluate a system whether it is in our body, our school or workplace, government, manufacturing processes, our commerce, or our beliefs?
2. How do individual actions affect others and the environment within one's community and globally?
3. What input choices could you make today that would ensure a more sustainable community tomorrow?
4. What are the effects of progress on society and the environment?

Quarter 4 Theme: My Legacy in the World

Guiding Questions:

1. What is a legacy? What will my legacy be?
2. How does the past connect to the future?
3. How is the past honored and preserved? Why?
4. How does perspective shape or alter the truth?
5. How do past and current events help us understand our community, our country, and the world?
